Spike Lavender is a Mediterranean lavender plant yielding oil similar to normal lavender – it does however, have a gentler fragrance and slightly different qulities and applications.

Latin name: Lavendula spica

Also known as: Lavendula latifolia, aspic, broad-leaved lavender, lesser lavender.

Botanical family: Labiatae or Lamiaceae 

Method of extraction: Steam distillation of the flowering tops of the plant.

Fragrance: a fresh herbaceous, camphoracous odour with dry-woody undertones.

Properties: Analgesic, Antibacterial, Antidepressant, Antiseptic, Antiviral, Decongestant, Insecticide, Menstrual regulation, warming, wound healing.

Aromatherapy uses:

Analgesic: General pain relief particularly muscular pains, rheumatism, sciatica, headaches and menstrual pains.

Respiratory system: breaks down and dissolves mucus in the lungs as well as acting as an expectorant. Good for bronchitis, sinusitis & throat infections.

Skin care: Can be used as an insect replant. Aids the formation of scare tissue. Prevents tissue degeneration while aiding in wound healing.

Nervous system: General stress-related conditions, PMT, Depression, sleeplessness.

Immune system: Flu. Prevention of disease and infection.

Blending suggestions: Peppermint, Sage, Rosemary, Lavandin, eucalyptus, rosewood, lavender, petitgrain, pine.

Safety: non-toxic, non-irritating, non-sensitising. Never apply undiluted oil directly to the skin. As with many other essential oils, pregnant women should avoid using spike lavender essential oil. It may also cause allergic reactions to people with sensitive skin

Application:

*Dilute in base oil such as sweet almond oil or grapeseed oil. No more than 10 drops per 10ml (5%) for a blissful massage oil.

*Dilute in a fragrance free cream or lotion. No more than 15 drops per 50ml.

*Add a few drops to your hot bath for a heavenly soak

*Diffuse a few drops of spike lavender oil to fragrance the room

As well as expanding her knowledge through study Jackie has also gain
practical experience. Her first role as a massage therapist being in a complementary therapy clinic within a doctors surgery.
During her time there she treated a range of conditions from emotional
states such as anxiety and panic to physical conditions such as chronic pain and terminal illness.

Over her years of working as a massage therapist Jackie has also treated couples for fertility though reflexology, and has seen women at various stages of pregnancy for everything from general relaxation and ‘me time’, to reducing discomforts such as back ache and swollen ankles.

Jackie’s most recent adventures have been in 5* spas on board a variety of different cruise ships.
During this time Jackie developed her skills in relaxing treatments to
complement the clinical work she had previously done. She also got to see quite a bit of the world and meet some amazing people.
