Learn the correct alignment and how to flow between postures.
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a classical and structured approach to asana, or the physical postures in yoga. The asana system is characterised by precise synchronised breathing and movement (Vinyasa); gaze points (Drishti) and Internal energy locks, (Bandhas).
Using this method heat and sweat are generated and this plays an important part in detoxing, purifying and cleansing the body. Through regular practise the body becomes more flexible and strong.
Slow controlled breathing and deep concentration create focus and a quieter mind, resulting in a feeling of calmness and peace.
The use of bandhas, or contraction of specific muscles in the perennial and lower abdominal areas during postures is also emphasized in Ashtanga Yoga.
When these sequences are memorized the student has freedom to practice on their own, developing a personal yoga practice that can be taken with them anywhere.
This course is aimed at Beginners but is also perfect for those who already practice Ashtanga Yoga but who are not confident about the sequence or are unsure about the flow together with the breath.
You will learn:
· How Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga works
· How to breathe correctly: the use of Ujayii breath to heat and detoxify the body and how to move with the breath
· The use of the bandhas (energetic locks in the body) to strengthen and improve your practice
· The correct Ashtanga sequence from memory: including the Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar A & B), the Standing Sequence, the seated postures of the Primary Series (at least as far as Navasana), and some of the Finishing Sequence (backbends, shoulderstands and the final meditative postures)
Please note: there is now a regular ASHTANGA YOGA DROP IN CLASS, from 7:30-8:45pm. No booking is required for this class. Come along and give it a go!
