Latino Bambino is a first-rate dance school based in London, which offers 45-minute Salsa fitness classes where mums wear their babies (from six weeks old and up) in carriers or slings whilst dancing to the pulsating Latin American tempo.

Our classes allow mothers to burn calories, improve cardiovascular endurance and posture, and shed-off their post-natal weight whilst building intimacy and trust with their baby.

The Latino Bambino classes are appropriate for all levels of fitness and dance abilities and are 100% baby friendly. During the classes, mums are encouraged to work at their own pace and they can attend to the needs of their baby at any time if needed.

From Dancing at Home to Starting a Dance School of Her Own

Latino Bambino is the brainchild of our lead instructor, Urska Gestrin Mosquera, and is a continuation of all the work that she has done in the past.

Urska was a competitive Latin American and Ballroom dancer, and four-time national champion. Urska competed at international level, and has taught Salsa to children and adults in different countries. She is a qualified Latin-American and Ballroom judge (adjudicator), and has over 15 years of experience in teaching dance including salsa.

She has trained children, teenagers and adults for international competitions and during this time raised national champions.

Urska is a member of the UKA (United Kingdom Alliance of professional teachers of dancing). She has also trained with fitness training leaders, YMCA, and is a fully qualified ante and post-natal exercise teacher.

Mum of two, Urska says “After becoming a mother it was difficult to find time to commit to any form of exercise. I found myself dancing at home with my husband and my two little Latino Bambinos” and that’s how the classes started in 2007.

Our Commitment

At Latino Bambino, we are passionate about our Salsa Babiestm and Latino Bambinotm classes. We ensure that the choreography and exercises are thoroughly researched and that our teachers have gone through the intensive training program that we have developed. This assures our clients that our instructors are equipped to conduct classes in a manner that is safe and fun for the participants.

Our classes are suitable for mothers with babies who are six weeks or older. They must have had their six-week post-natal check-up, and should consult with their doctor before starting our workout or any other type of exercise. We also encourage dads, and baby sitters to experience the Salsa fun and the benefits of baby wearing!

It is the feedback from our Salsa Mumstm that drives us to be so passionate and commited about our salsa classes. Over and Over again we hear mums say how much they look forward to the class and that it is their highlight of the week that helps them to unwind, uplift and get those endorphins going – All whilst bonding with their baby.

For information and to book please call Urska on 07961 838349 or info@latinobambino.co.uk

The Vitality Centre is the most popular venue that she teaches from.

Her own experience :

Reshma has used the Hypnobirthing tools and techniques with the birth of 2 of her 3 children. Her first experience over 10 years ago was not a pleasant experience and decided to try Hypnobirthing for her 2nd and 3rd birth to ensure that history would not repeat itself. She had an amazing water birth in the Hospital in just 2Hours! And then proceeded to give birth at home 3 years later also in a birthing pool where she was very aware and in control giving her confidence to deliver her own children. Both her Hypnobirths were extremely quick!

Testimonies

*Just to let you know that our first child Carter Stuart Olivier was born on
Wednesday 28th July 2010 at 06:45 at home in water. It was the most
amazing experience and I know you all wonder the same thing and YES
Hypnobirthing works!! I mean…not that I ever doubted it won’t work but it
was amazing how my body just took over and even when I went through a
little ‘difficult’ period my mind just gave me the energy to carry on.
~Marileze Boshoff, South London

*The breathing techniques I learnt were so valuable, and definitely helped
me put my energy inwards. I was not at all tired like with my 1st birth.
Breathing and keeping relaxing all these muscles that wanted to tighten
really helped me have a quick birth. The midwife was so impressed that she said she would look into thisHypnobirth. So A BIG THANK YOU from Sofia for making her arrival to this world a calm, controlled and wonderful experience for both Alessandro and me. ~ Karima & Allesandro

*Hi Reshma! Our little girl was born just yesterday as planned in the
birthing centre, naturally in only 4 hours!! We are ecstatic and amazed
how effective the techniques were and we can?t wait to do it all over
again. We will send you a full birthing story really soon and want to say many thanks for helping us have a fantastic experience. ~ John & Harriett

Pubic pain is a problem that many pregnant women experience; yet doctors and midwives often dismiss this pain as they believe that it cannot be treated, or they feel that it is just one of those pregnancy discomforts that has to be endured until after birth.

Pubic pain in pregnancy can be difficult to deal with but it is not impossible, and it is should not something which you just have to live with.

The pelvis can be described as being a circular shaped bone that goes all around and almost meets in the middle in front. The two sides do not quite touch; there is a small gap between them connected by fibrocartilaginous tissue reinforced by several ligaments. This area is called the Pubic Symphysis. The design of this joint is essential to encourage stabilization of the pelvis while allowing a good range of motion.

The Pubic Symphysis and the Sacro-Iliac joints (in the back of the pelvis) are especially important during pregnancy, as their flexibility allows the bones to move freely and to expand to help a baby fit through more easily during birth.

In pregnancy it is very easy to lock one of your sacro-iliac joints – even a simple run can cause this. With time the muscles associated with the hip can go into spasm, which can cause lower back pain, movement restricted and eventually the result can be pubic pain – as the whole pelvis is mal-aligned.

The hormones released towards the end of pregnancy further encourage a loosening of the pelvis. This is essential to give maximum space and flexibility, and to help make things easy for birth.

However, in some women, either because of excessive levels of hormones, extra sensitivity to hormones, or a pelvis that is out of alignment and/ or unstable, there is an increase of pressure on the joint.

To summarise: significant pubic pain is caused by the pelvic girdle area not moving as it is designed to as a result of either hormonal changes, misalignment of the pelvis, or a combination of both.

The symptoms of SPD vary from person to person but can include:

pubic pain

pubic tenderness to the touch

lower back pain, especially in the sacro-iliac (dimple)area

general weakness and instability

difficulty/pain rolling over in bed

difficulty/pain with stairs, getting in and out of cars, sitting down or getting up, walking, putting on clothes, bending, lifting, standing on one foot, lifting heavy objects, etc.

sciatica – irritation of nerve with pain down the leg

“clicking” in the pelvis when walking

waddling gait

feeling like hip is out of place or has to pop into place before walking

bladder dysfunction (temporary incontinence at change in position)

knee pain or pain in other areas can sometimes also be a side-effect of pelvis problems

Pubic pain often comes on early in pregnancy, even as early as 12 weeks. Although pubic pain often does go away after pregnancy, many women find that it can linger usually diminished but still present.

Hence it is important to treat this as soon as possible. It is essential to treat any malalignment or instability issues to prevent this from re-occuring in future pregnancies.

From experience of working for many years with pregnant women the Vitality osteopaths feel that this condition is probably primarily a problem of mal-alignment, although hormone levels and sensitivity to hormones may also play a role. Many women have been treated and after one session have felt significant relief. An addition of pilates to pre and post natal care will also really help this condition.

Pre-Birth Acupuncture

Breech
A baby will generally settle into a cephalic -head down – position by week 34/36 of pregnancy. When the baby is head up, this is referred to as a breech position.

In Chinese Medicine Acupuncture point, BL67 which is situated on the little toe is used. This helps to stimulate the baby to move whilst at the same time relaxing the uterine muscles, encouraging the baby to turn. The treatment is done once a day for 5 consecutive days.

Your midwife or obstetrician may refer you for ECV (external cephalic version) which is done by a specialist consultant. It can be very beneficial to use the moxabustion for 5 to 10 consecutive days prior to ECV. This is a safe and effective way to encourage breech babies to turn. The alternative can often be a C-section.
The ideal time to use moxibustion is week 34 to 37, however moxibustion on BL67 can be used up until full term.

Acupuncture for breech cannot be used there is: twin pregnancy, placenta previa, high blood pressure, any uterine bleeding.

Labour Inducement
Acupuncture can be very effective to help promote the onset of labour. points are used which can help to descend the baby into the pelvic area, to aid cervical dilation and to stimulate uterine contractions.

This treatment is very effective at promoting optimum foetal position, helping to promote the most fluent position between the baby’s head and the mother’s pelvis. Acupuncture also helps to prime the body, stimulating the endocrine processes and can help to calm any anxiety that a woman often feels just prior to birth.
In Chinese medicine it is not considered appropriate to encourage spontaneous labour until after 40 weeks.

This treatment is very helpful prior to a scheduled medical induction. Acupuncture helps to prime the body’s systems and can help the body to respond more efficiently and fluently to the stimulus of a medical induction.
However I hope that by coming to Vitality Centre and trying the natural form of inducement, you wont have to go through medical inducement!

I would reccommend 2-3 sessions of acupuncture to help promote spontaneous labour. I often beleive its a bit like pushing a stationary car, once we build a little momentum, we can get the whole thing moving with relative speed.

Acupuncture can really help to energise the mother and may bring you the added strength needed to have an effective labour and delivery.

Please feel free to call or email me with any other questions, i have over 5 years of experience and even train midwives how to do this,so your in safe hands and its really worth considering before you go down the medical route.

Ian Prytherch is available for appointments Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at Vitality Centre. Please call or email reception for further details. info@vitality-centre.co.uk 020 8871 4677

With gyrotonics in particular that has almost completely gone and I a fitter and more pain free than I have been for years. Dylan is a great teacher. He works you hard but always makes the class fun.” ~ Deb Collins

“Seriously, may I just say what good teachers you have. In particular Poppy and Jane. Different styles, but both dedicated to their classes, and both expert teachers.” ~ N. Vyas

“Isabelle’s massages are wonderful as she really wants to ensure the person has the full benefits of the massage whilst being healed. So you are physically, emotionally and mentally better, a true holistic massage! Also I love the fact that all her products are natural and tailored made for each individual’s needs. I came out of both massages relaxed, happier and much lighter, and I have told all my friends to go and see her. I am extremely happy to recommend highly Isabel to anyone who wants to experience something very special and truly feel better.” ~ C.B

What is YogaBirth?

YogaBirth is an association of professionally trained teachers of antenatal and postnatal yoga and childbirth education. We are dedicated to supporting women during the childbearing year, and we welcome all women and their partners into our classes. Developed over three decades, our specialised approach to childbirth education through yoga combines the physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual aspects of birth preparation and the early postnatal period.

Our members are trained and certified through YogaBirth and regularly continue their professional development with courses, personal yoga practice, experience at births and time spent with new mothers. The YogaBirth Association provides annual study days and residential weekends featuring professionals who present current research and lead practical sessions. Many of our members are also skilled practitioners of other disciplines, including acupuncture, shiatsu, reflexology, physiotherapy, cranio-sacral therapy, midwifery, doula support, lactation counselling, baby massage and motherhood. We work closely with midwives and obstetricians, GPs, other healthcare professionals and yoga teachers, birth activists and childbirth organisations.

Concessionary rates are offered where necessary so that no one is excluded due to cost.

The Ethos of YogaBirth
The ancient Sanskrit word “yoga” means “union”. We believe that the union of mind, body and breath, as practiced in YogaBirth classes, is the ideal way to prepare for labour and birth, and for the immense transition into motherhood.

Our integrity as YogaBirth teachers is rooted in our respect for every new mother, as well as our firm belief in the body’s natural intelligence and in the instinctive, physiological process of birth. We honour childbirth as a healthy, normal event in the life of a woman/ mother, family and society. We also recognise that there is no correct way to give birth and that each woman makes individual choices. Sometimes birth requires appropriate medical support and we encourage a positive and open-minded attitude to the safety-net of modern technology. YogaBirth teachers are committed to providing up-to-date, unbiased information, so as to inform women but not make decisions for them, nor judge them for their preferences.

Through YogaBirth, parents can approach the birth of their baby aware of their options and of what is personally important and appropriate. They can move forward with a balanced attitude and with new resources for labour and early parenthood.

Our Intentions ~ How We Work
In YogaBirth classes we teach deep and gentle bodywork appropriate for pregnancy and the postnatal period. We integrate important exercises, including pelvic floor and postural awareness, to optimise health during the childbearing year. Women develop physical strength and suppleness, an essential combination for birthing and mothering, and they can experience the vital energy that connects each mother to her baby. Many reflect upon this as a wonderful time of first bonding.

Our classes are infused with preparation for labour and birth, incorporating intelligent, gravity-assisting positions and movements. These provide great comfort, keep the baby well-oxygenated, and potentially make birth easier, faster and uncomplicated.

Breathing, essential to life and birth, is the core of YogaBirth classes. Over the weeks, through the practise of simple breath awareness, women become familiar with the natural rhythm of their breath and so increase their ability to focus inward. This practise helps calm the busy mind, clearing the way for each woman to listen to her own intuitive voice. With greater clarity, she can realise her intentions for birth and yet remain open to the individuality of each birth. These insights help dispel much of the fear around the birthing process so that she can approach labour with peace of mind: with trust in her body’s natural wisdom and power, and confidence in her innate ability to give birth. When her body takes over during labour she can instinctively use her breath to soothe, steady and guide herself through the contractions.

YogaBirth classes are not spiritually prescriptive, yet often through our work we help women to sense and appreciate the miracle of life growing inside and encourage them to joyfully accept the way their bodies change over the months. As a woman embraces her precious status in the world as a mother-to-be, she may increase her commitment to nurturing herself and thus ensuring her baby’s wellbeing. By facilitating weekly meetings of women in a familiar, relaxing environment, YogaBirth classes provide continuity during both the antenatal and postnatal periods, and a forum for women to meet other pregnant women and new mothers. Women gain great support and learn enormously from each other: sharing information, experiences, feelings and confidence. After each class we chat over tea, and often mothers return to introduce their new babies and to share and celebrate their birth experiences. These sessions create a sense of community: we are all women living a similar experience, and part of the family of mothers around the world giving birth to 300,000 new lives every day.

**Please note: payment is accepted in the form of cheque (made out to Annabel Hargrave) or cash only.

“I found Annabel’s antenatal classes invaluable – a little oasis of calm in an otherwise hectic working week. I really appreciated all of the practical advice regarding the birth and the classes really helped me visualise the labour and birth process and develop strategies for pain management. In fact I think the pain management skills may have been a little too effective, as initially the mid-wife did not believe that I was actually in labour and sent me home from the hospital without an examination, only to return a few hours later, fully dilated!

I found the visiting therapists very helpful and it was a wonderful way of selecting a practitioner to trust and relate to. I have also met and maintained relationships with other new mums in the local area.”

*Relaxing – massage provides a nurturing, soothing touch, which promotes
the release of emotional and psychical tension.

*Improves flow of energy through the body and helps to minimise fatigue.

*Revitalises and helps improve circulation which therefore helps prevent
varicose veins, thread veins and piles.

*Massage is passive exercise and helps to stimulate and drain the
lymphatic system – eliminating toxins and reducing fluid retention.

*Helps tone the muscles and relieve cramp.

*Increases circulation to maintain skin suppleness and help prevent stretch
marks.

*Massage has a psychological benefit treating the body as a whole,
promoting a feeling of calm and well-being.

*Helps prepare the body for childbirth by loosening the pelvis and ridding
the body of excess tension prior to the onset of labour.

*Reassurance, nurturing and relaxation for the mother during pregnancy
has shown to have a far reaching impact on her foetus. Any benefit to the
mother is also a benefit to the baby.
